The practical stuff.
Because you may have questions.
Starting therapy comes with some logistics. Here are answers to the things people usually want to know before getting started.
GETTING STARTED
Questions about reaching out and beginning therapy.
-
Start by completing our Get Started form and telling us a little about what you’re looking for.
We’ll review your information, answer any initial questions, and help you figure out the best next step.
-
Yes. We offer a brief consultation to help determine whether Honeybee and Hive may be a good fit for what you’re looking for.
-
You don’t have to make a choice before reaching out.
Tell us a little about what you’re looking for, what you’d like help with, and what matters to you in a therapist. We can help you decide which clinician may be a good fit.
-
We will review your information and follow up with you about availability, therapist fit, and next steps.
FEES AND INSURANCE
Everything you need to know about payment and insurance.
-
Yes. Honeybee and Hive Counseling is in network with BCBS PPO, Aetna PPO, Optum/UnitedHealthcare PPO, Cigna PPO, and CHAMPVA.
Coverage varies by individual policy, so we recommend confirming your behavioral health benefits directly with your insurance company.
-
If paying out of pocket, fees are $200 for a 53-minute session.
-
In many cases, psychotherapy is an eligible HSA or FSA expense.
Individual plans vary, so check with your HSA/FSA administrator about your specific benefits.
-
If you are paying privately and not using insurance, federal law may give you the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of the expected cost of your care. We’ll provide information about this when appropriate and are happy to answer questions about anticipated fees.
-
Yes. If you are using out-of-network benefits, we can provide a superbill with the information typically required for you to submit a reimbursement claim to your insurance company. Reimbursement is determined by your plan and is not guaranteed.
Insurance is confusing enough already.
We’ll do our best to explain what we can, but your insurance company is ultimately the best source for information about your deductible, copay, coinsurance, reimbursement, and coverage.
APPOINTMENTS AND POLICIES
Logistics, policies, and what to expect in therapy
-
Sessions are 45 or 53 minutes, depending on your insurance policy.
-
Many clients begin with weekly appointments, but frequency depends on your needs, goals, treatment plan, and therapist availability. You and your therapist will discuss what makes the most sense for you.
-
We ask for at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Late cancellations and missed appointments will be charged the full session fee. Late cancellations and no show fees are paid out of pocket and are not submitted to insurance.
-
Yes. Most Honeybee and Hive Counseling appointments are provided online to clients who are physically located in Illinois at the time of their session.
-
Most Honeybee and Hive appointments are virtual. Limited in-person appointments may be available.
-
If an in-person appointment is clinically appropriate and available, our office is located in Evanston in the downtown area.
-
Yes. Protecting your privacy is a core part of therapy. There are specific legal and safety-related exceptions to confidentiality, and your therapist will review those with you.
For online sessions, we also ask that you choose a private location where you will feel comfortable speaking freely.
Reach out and we’ll be happy to help.
